Introduction:
The steel sucker rod are manufactured from micro alloyed, modified, special bar quality hot rolled carbon or alloy steel. The steel sucker rod, an essential part in the rod production system, is used to connect the pumping unit on the ground and the oil well pump down in the well.
Quality Standard: API Spec 11B
Technical Performance & Characteristics:
- Advanced online fault detection, hardening, continuous overall tempering and ball blast techniques are incorporated so that mechanical strength and overall performance are enhanced.
- Threads are processed on special numeral control lathes avoiding any rotation of the rod and then subject to roll forming so as to ensure high precision, reliable performance and extended service life.
Manufacturing Process:
- Rod Bar: The incoming rod bars are inspected for any damage, fault and discontinuities.Before arranging the rod bars for production process, carry out chemical composition testing, dimensional inspection & surface quality inspection. High quality standard is maintained at various stage inspections.
- Manufacturing: Rod bars are manufactured from hot rolled alloy steel. Rod bars are machine straightened and cold drawn to the required size. The rod bar ends are hot forged according to API designed sizes. The rods are then heat treated over the full length.As per requirement of mechanical properties, the rods are normalized and tempered to the specified level or quenched and tempered to the required hardness and strength. Care is taken to achieve metallographic structure with no residual stresses in the rod.A sample specimen is cut from the heat treated material and is tested for ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and elongation. The rod is then again checked for straightness. The forged ends are properly aligned with its body. Rods are cleaned by shot-blasting to remove any scale and oxidation. The forged ends are machined on C.N.C. Lathe machines as per API dimensions and checked with API approved gauges.
- Packaging and Storage: The sucker rods are then coated with rust inhibitors and carefully palletized in bundles for safe transport and handling.
Specifications:
- Grade C sucker rod is made from fine carbon steel. It is featured by mid-strength, good plasticity, toughness, corrosion resitance. It is suitable for sour medium environment where it is no susceptible to sulphuric stress cracking.
- Grade D sucker rod is made from fine alloy steel, featured by high strength, better plasticity and long service life after heat treatment. This product is suitable for no-corrosion or ligh-corrosion environment oil-well widely.
- Grade HL and HY sucker rod are super-high strength sucker rod, having the same size and main parameter as grade D sucker rod, but their strength is capable to reach 966-1195Mpa. Grade HL and HY sucker rod are suitable for the deep oil-well or big-pump capacity oil-well.
- Grade K, KD and KH sucker rod are made from fine Cr-Ni-Mo alloy steel containing different amount of Ni. They possess more powerful anti-corrosion function. The products are suitable for strong corrosion oil-well, with depth of shallow, middle and deep respectively.
Steel Sucker Rod Selection Guide:
- Grade C: Designed for light-to-medium loads in shallow-to-medium depth wells and non-corrosive or effectively inhibited corrosive well fluids.
- Grade K: For light-to-medium loads in shallow-to-medium depth wells where corrosion is a problem and must be effectively inhibited.
- Grade D: For heavy rod loads or deep wells in mild-to-medium corrosive well fluids that are effectively inhibited against corrosion.
- Grade KD: For medium-heavy rod loads or deep wells in corrosive well fluids that are effectively inhibited against corrosion attack.
- Grade HL and HY: Designed for heavy-extra heavy loads at any depth in corrosive fluids that are effectively inhibited against corrosion attack.
- Grade KH: Designed for extra heavy loads at any depth and fluids that are effectively inhibited against corrosion attack.
Definitions of Loads:
- Light: 0Mpa to 170Mpa
- Medium: 170Mpa to 240Mpa
- Heavy: 240Mpa to 290Mpa
- Extra Heavy: 290Mpa min

- Shallow: 1220mtrs max
- Medium: 1220mtrs to 2130mtrs
- Deep: 2130mtrs min
