On December 7, 2023, the longitudinal submerged arc welded steel pipe product with a diameter of 1219mm, wall thickness of 22mm, and steel grade X80M, trial-produced by the Petroleum Steel Pipe Company’s new energy pipeline manufacturing line, successfully passed the evaluation and appraisal of the National Pipeline Network Group. The expert panel unanimously concluded that the longitudinal submerged arc welded steel pipes produced by this production line meet all standard requirements and demonstrate the capability for batch production.
The product evaluation and appraisal were organized by the China Iron and Steel Association, commissioned by the Construction Project Management Branch of the National Pipeline Network Group. Experts from various institutions, including the China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group, CNPC Engineering and Technology Research Institute of Materials, CNPC Bohai Petroleum Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd., CNPC National Oil and Gas Pipeline Engineering Technology Research Center Co., Ltd., China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co., Ltd., University of Science and Technology Beijing, and China Steel Construction Society, conducted on-site inspections. After hearing reports and reviewing relevant appraisal materials, they unanimously agreed that the company’s newly built new energy pipeline manufacturing line features advanced equipment and rational processes. Through the trial production and verification of the 1219mm diameter, 22mm wall thickness, X80M grade longitudinal submerged arc welded steel pipes, the production line has demonstrated its capability for batch production of longitudinal submerged arc welded steel pipes.
This production line trial was based on the “Sichuan-East Gas Transmission Second Line Natural Gas Pipeline Project Sichuan-Chongqing-Hubei Section (Weiyuan/Luxian-Tongliang)” project, conducting single furnace and thousand-ton level trials. The trial applied multiple advanced process control technologies of the production line and designed matching manufacturing process parameters, effectively solving key technical issues. The trial process was smooth with good quality control, and all product test results met the standards. The mechanical and chemical properties of the steel pipes and the adaptability of the girth welding process have passed third-party evaluation. Following this evaluation of the D1219×22mm X80M longitudinal submerged arc welded steel pipes from the new energy pipeline manufacturing line, the company will begin producing 18-meter-long longitudinal submerged arc welded steel pipes, which will be applied in major oil and gas transmission pipeline projects such as the China-Russia Far East pipeline and the Second Sichuan-East Gas Transmission Line.
